  1. a classic 'man, were they ever hammered' gig. 4th or july & by the time they hit the stage, they were beyond slurring & pissed. totally sloppy, they were totally uninterested at times but loveable all the same. in the midst of the train wreck, a gorgeous solo 'skyway' gets played ....then it would fall apart again.....i kinda recall band members leaving & returning to the stage for the last half hr or so. eventually tommy just admits 'i don't feel like playing anymore' & leaves. some fans totally loved it, other huge fans thought it was the worst ever.
we were in the bar a few hrs pre-gig & caught the soundcheck - rip-snorting version of IOU & even 'sweet home chicago' sounded way tighter.....i guess after that, it all fell apart....
the night before in portland was the total opposite - tight, totally ripping rock & roll. old fast songs, killer new ones, & i kinda think they played bits of ZZ top's 'the grange' & cheap trick's 'he's a whore'......but i could be delusional. Tommy did smash his bass Townsend-style at the end of the gig.......a friend asked Tommy the next night in Vancouver 'Tommy! where's your bass?!' Tommy's sheepish & slurred reply: 'it's bwoken'

  2. yer welcome.....i forgot to say that i'm pretty sure the gig went on for another half hour or so after battleship chains....attempts at stuff like hootenanny & maybe 'hospital' & a few other songs that all fell apart & were 'played' by different band members or roadies. Tommy was definitely mingling with the audience & enjoying a beverage long before the final note was played.

  3. Cool! I was also at this show and Paul hung out at our table before the show and was really wasted before showtime. Was a fun drunk fest and somewhere I have a bunch of crummy pictures from the show. I do remember the set being longer with I believe Hootnany as a last (?) song. I saw them in Seattle the next night and they were really on which surprised me as they must have been hurtin for certain!! Good times!!!

  5. I was also there... Just as was discussed... wasted, disinterested etc. ... but great in that it was the only time I saw them.
