I was...oh man, this show literally changed my life. I was a high school kid who had heard the 'Mats here and there but went with a couple of friends who wanted to see Petty. I don't agree that it was a sloppy performance--the 'Mats were on that night but the Petty crowd could have cared less. Tommy was pissed off the whole night. He played a couple of songs sitting down, threw a pitcher of beer at the audience at one point, and smashed his bass and amp during Bastards. Paul and Tommy were baiting the audience (or the few that were listening) all night and whistling the Andy Griffith theme was the final kiss-off. Might still be the greatest show I've ever been to. Too bad the recording is so poor, I would love to hear a better version.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
